Change of the marking of ATEX fans

The transition period for the changeover concludes at the end of October 2019 and is mandatory.

a) Transition from DIN EN 13463-1 ff to DIN EN ISO 80079-36 and -37

b) Reminder: Addition of EPL for motors according to a revised series of standards EN 60079-0 ff

Current marking of ATEX fans according to DIN EN 13463-5

New marking of ATEX fans (DIN EN ISO 80079-36)

ith the changeover of the standards to DIN EN ISO 80079-36/-37, all relevant documents must be aligned.
These are: Operating instructions / assembly instructions, declarations of conformity / installation declarations, type plates of ATEX fans, data sheets, designations in quotations and orders

The transition period for the changeover concludes at the end of October 2019 and is mandatory.

New marking of ATEX fans (DIN EN ISO 80079-36)

  • The small " c " after the G becomes " Ex h", which is the new designation for " non-electrical equipment ", the exact type of ignition protection is no longer specified for non-electrical equipment! Do not forget the space after the " G "!
  • The " device protection level " is added at the end: Gb for zone 1 = cat. 2G and Gc for zone 2 = cat. 3G
  • The small " c" after the D becomes " Ex h" as above. Do not forget the space after the " D"!
  • Addition of explosion group IIIC for conductive dust in the non-electrical part of dust fans
  • The " device protection level "  is added at the end: Db for zone 21 = cat. 2D and Dc for zone 22 = cat. 3D

Joint labeling is no longer permitted for hybrid devices! → Separate marking for gas and dust!

  • The small " c " after the G or D becomes " Ex h ", like previous page. Do not forget the space character after the " G " or " D "!
  • The " device protection level " is added at the end: Gb for zone 1 (cat. 2G) and Gc for zone 2 (cat. 3G), Db for zone 21 (cat. 2D), Dc for zone 22 (cat. 3D)
  • Separate marking for gas and dust!
  • For the dust part the max. allowed surface temperature must not be written as temperature class but in °C, as for fans only for dust Ex protection !

New marking of ATEX fans (EN ISO 80079-36) with transition period until 10/31/2019

  • The different explosion groups for gases remain unchanged (IIA, IIB and IIC).
  • The different explosion groups for dusts (IIIA = conductive suspended matter, IIIB = non-conductive dust and IIIC = conductive dust) must now be included in the mechanical part of fans (= "non-electrical equipment")!
  • The different temperature classes for gases remain unchanged (T1 to T6)
  • Special devices with different categories for indoor and outdoor remain unchanged in this respect. E.g. II2/3 Dc… becomes II2/3 D Ex h …
  • For all ATEX fans, a CE mark must be printed on our type plates for the fan and a separate declaration of conformity (conformity with the ATEX Directive, not with the Machinery Directive!) must be drawn up and supplied with it, in addition to the declaration of incorporation in accordance with the Machinery Directive (not conformity with theMachinery Directive, as only a declaration of incorporation is to be issued for partly completed machinery!)

Translation table of the marking of ATEX motors according to EN 60079-0:2012 et seq

ATEX motors for zone 1 and 2 are also marked with equipment protection level according to new EN 60079 (-7): Type of ignition protection e (="increased safety") old and new, one for zone 1 and one for zone 2:

  • Addition of the equipment protection level code letter after the e: b for zone 1 and c for zone 2. Again, addition of the complete equipment protection level at the end, consisting of G for gas plus b for zone 1 or c for zone 2.
  • CAUTION: The old type of ignition protection Ex nA (="non-sparking") according to EN 60079-15 now becomes Ex ec (="increased safety") now according to EN 60079-7, also only for zone 2. Technically, the motors are identical! Inverter operation permitted if allowed by manufacturer (yes for EMOD, CEMP and Siemens, no for Elpromand Koncar).

ATEX motors for zone 1 and 2 are also marked with equipment protection level according to new EN 60079 (-1):
Type of ignition protection d (="pressure-encapsulated") old and new, once with pressure-encapsulated KK (old Ex "d") and once with KK according to increased safety (old " Ex de")

  • Addition of the code letter for the equipment protection level after the d: b for zone 1. Once again addition of the complete equipment protection level at the end, consisting of G for gas plus b for zone 1.
  • ATTENTION: for flameproof motors with terminal box in accordance with increased safety, both types of ignition protection are now written separately, the one for the motor first and the one for the terminal box second: old "Ex de", new "Ex dbeb"! Technically nothing changes

ATEX motors for zone 21 and 22 are also marked with equipment protection level according to new EN 60079 (-31): Type of ignition protection t (="protection by housing") old and new

Addition of the equipment protection level code letter after the t: b for zone 21 and c for zone 22. Again, addition of the complete equipment protection level at the end, consisting of D for dust ("Dust") plus b for zone 21 or c for zone 22.
